John Reed Trusty Sr., 74, of Greenwood, passed away at UMMC in Jackson on May 15, 2023. He was born in Glen Falls, New York, on July 4, 1948.

"Johnny" was raised in Charleston, MS, where he spent his formative years. As a child, he had dreams of flying airplanes. Upon graduation from high school, he moved to Greenwood where he worked at a local flying service. He also took a second job at a zipper factory to pay for flying lessons. At age 21, he became a full-time ag pilot. Johnny flew for 50 seasons in Leflore and Sunflower counties. He enjoyed the ag pilot fraternity and missed the profession after retirement.

Johnny was a loving father and husband but especially relished being a grandfather. "Pap" loved his grandchildren at all ages but memories with him rolling around with toddlers are especially lasting. When his own children were younger, Johnny would not hesitate to discipline their friends as his own, which still generates recollections today. Johnny was active until the very end despite medical limitations and viewed idleness as an enemy.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby and Lynn Trusty, and his brothers, Tommy and Larry Trusty. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Mary Jane Trusty, sisters, Barbara Bailey of Flowood, Dixie Smith of Lambert, and Vickie Shaw of Charleston, children, Suzanne Camp (Ronnie) of Cape Girardeau, MO, Reed Trusty (Kristen) of Sidon, and Matt Trusty (Shelby) of Madison, and six grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at St. John's United Methodist Church in Greenwood at 9:30 AM on Thursday, May 18, 2023. The funeral service will follow immediately after at 11:00 AM, also at St. John's.
