John Earl "Johnny" Tharpe

John Earl "Johnny" Tharpe was born on March 20, 1960 in Greenwood, MS, to John Thomas "Speedy" & Helen Bennett Tharpe. He attended Bankston Elementary & Pillow Academy. He worked with his father at Cherokee Equipment Co. & did appliance repair in his later years. He enjoyed crafting, hunting, fishing & gardening.

He passed away at St. Dominic's hospital in Jackson, MS, on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by a sister, Elaine; son, Lawson (Shelby); daughter, Kimberly (Trey); and six grandchildren, Alyssa, Autry, Addey, Appie, Grant & Ava, all of Greenwood. He had a host of friends & extended family he loved keeping up with.

He will be laid to rest at Gore Springs United Methodist Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
