Juanita Allen Macy, age 96, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Indywood Glen, Greenwood, MS after a short illness.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at First Presbyterian Church Tuesday, June 24 at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be in the church parlor one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. Rusty Douglas will conduct the services. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Macy was born in Laurel, MS on April 8, 1918 to Eula Merrietta Garrison Allen and Edgar G. Allen. The fifth of seven children, she grew up in Laurel, graduated from George S. Gardner High School, and was employed by the Masonite Corporation. Here she met a young salesman from Indiana who stole her heart. With World War II on the horizon, they married September 28, 1940. In 1942 she sent her handsome bridegroom off to war with the Army Air Corps. He returned home safely in 1945.

Mrs. Macy was an active member of First Methodist Church in Laurel, MS. Her years in Laurel were busy with family, Literary Club, Laurel Garden Club, bridge club and church circle. She also stayed active by playing golf. She often said that her favorite sport was shopping.

After her husband retired, they moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1982 and joined St. John's Methodist Church. They made many new friends and enjoyed wonderful experiences during 22 years in their western adobe style home. They also traveled extensively, visiting western states and Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and Europe.

Mrs. Macy will always be remembered by her family as a loving mother and a superior homemaker. Her children are a testimony to her thoughtful guidance and upbringing. She was noted for the beautiful needlework she lovingly made for family and friends.

Mrs. Macy was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Macy, her six siblings, and granddaughter Laura Kathryne Macy.

She is survived by her son, Colonel John Richard Macy (Leigh) of North Carrollton, MS, and their daughters Elizabeth Macy Rogers (Ric) of Ocean Springs, MS, and Karen Macy Schepis (Ty) of San Marcos, TX; daughter Annelle Macy Knight (John) of Collierville, TN and her children Caroline Cary Bailey of Oklahoma City, OK, Meredith Bailey McAlexander (Preston) of Hernando, MS, and William Jason Bailey (Greta) of Oxford, MS. She leaves nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Carol Macy, of Union City, IN, several nieces, and a special nephew, David B. Allen of Jackson, formerly of Laurel.

Her family would like to thank the staff of Indywood Glen for their wonderful care and many kindnesses over her ten years there. Special thanks to Dr. Henry Flautt and his staff and Brenda Sanders who cared for Juanita in her last days.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Greenwood, MS or to a charity or cause of the donor's choice. Interment will be at a later date at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. Services will be conducted by a close family friend, Rev. John Grover.
