Julian Earnest (Jack) Johnson, III of Greenwood, Mississippi, passed away on Thursday, June 29th, 2023 at Baptist Hospital in Jackson after a brief illness.  He was 73 years old.

Jack was born in Greenwood on September 14th, 1949 to the late Merrel Callaway Parker and Julian Earnest Johnson, Jr.  He graduated from Greenwood High and Mississippi State, where he was a proud Sigma Chi, so much so that one of his fraternity brothers once asked him in class, had he not already passed this class, to which Jack responded, "You know, come to think of it, you are right!"

Upon graduation, Jack came back to work in the family business, Johnson Implement Company, that was started by his grandfather, becoming President upon the retirement of his father.  He was always very civic and social minded and served as Chairman of many organizations including the Greenwood Leflore Chamber of Commerce, Leflore County Republican Party, and Greenwood Country Club. Jack was also honored as the King of Cotton in 1996 and was a past board member of Cottonlandia, the Mississippi Home Commission, the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwood, the Greenwood Guild of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture, and the Mid-South Equipment Dealer's Association.

In the 1980's, Jack met his future wife, Sandra, both of whom loved music, and they began playing cocktail parties and wedding receptions with Jack on the piano and Sandra on the organ.  They would eventually marry and were happily together until Sandra's passing in 2007.   He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church and was very active in the church serving in many capacities until Sandra's protracted illness.  Helping start the singing Christmas tree was one of his favorite accomplishments.

He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, love of entertaining, belief in etiquette, well dressed attire, eye for antiques, homemade mayonnaise, and numerous parties under his direction.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Knight Johnson, and sister, Merrel Johnson Wood.  He is survived by his stepson, Albert Morris Austin V and wife Wendy of Nashville; brother, Henry Parker Johnson and wife Judy of Greenwood; brother-in-law, Richard Allen Wood III of Greenwood; nieces, Martha Boswell Brock, Mary Lindsey Smith, and Merrel Boswell Patridge; and nephew, Dr. Henry Parker Johnson, Jr.

Visitation will be from 9:30 AM till 11:00 AM on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home followed by a graveside service in Odd Fellows Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
