Lavaughn Woods Mitchell , 91, of Greenwood, MS, died Friday, May 15, 2020 at the Veteran's Hospital in Jackson, MS. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Poplar Springs Cemetery in Tallahatchie County. Rev. Eddie Carpenter will officiate the services.

He was born March 4, 1929 in the High Point Community of Tallahatchie County to Wilburn E. Mitchell and Rosa Brewer Mitchell. He graduated from Boyle High School. He had a passion for electronics, especially radio communications. He was in the Air Force and worked as an F.F.A. air traffic controller. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of North Greenwood Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Townsend, brother, Charles Mitchell, and his parents.

He is survived by his sister, Virginia White of Dresdan, TN; brothers, Clifton Mitchell and wife Margene of Orange, TX, and Abner Mitchell of Chattanooga, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
