Services for Lee Vance Gardner will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2022 11:00 AM at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS.
Mr. Gardner, age 88, died on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
Mr. Gardner was born and raised in Swiftown, MS. After he graduated from high school, Mr. Gardner attended Draughon's Business School in Jackson before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He married his wife, Gladys Loper Gardner of Sidon on November 6, 1954. After 20 years of service Mr. Gardner retired from the Air Force in 1973 and later received a vocational-technical certificate in air conditioning and refrigeration repair from MS Delta Community College. He was self-employed and ran a successful appliance repair business for many years until his retirement in 2004. After retirement, you could almost always find him in his vegetable garden or tending to his large collection of roses. Mr. Gardner was an avid hunter, die-hard Ole Miss Fan, and loving family man. His family always came first, and nothing made him happier than being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Gardner, four brothers, two sisters, and a great granddaughter.
He is survived by his daughter, Denise Gardner of Greenwood, MS; son, Howard "Bud" (Nila) Gardner of Greenwood, MS; five grandchildren, Wilson (Holley) Gardner of Starkville, MS, Paul (Forrest Hodge) Brown of Greenwood, MS, Matthew (Mandi) Gardner of Water Valley, MS, Amanda (Justin) Coleman of Madison, MS, and Kylie (Ben) Wilkerson of Oxford, MS; two sisters, Martha Ann Drewery of Batesville, MS, and Linda Sullivan of Brandon, MS; and eight great-grandchildren
Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 9, 2022 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Rev. Dennis McKay will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Wilson Gardner, Paul Brown, Forrest Hodge, Matthew Gardner, Justin Coleman, and Ben Wilkerson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brendan Pernell, Jeff Gardner, Howard Gardner, and Dave Sullivan. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
