Lee Vardaman "L.V." Robertson, Jr., age 93, passed away at home in Greenwood, MS, on Thursday, March 31, 2022. He was born in Carroll County on June 22, 1928 to Lee Vardaman and Mamie Acy Robertson. L.V. attended Blackhawk School and joined the Navy at age 17 in 1945, serving on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt aircraft carrier. He married Martha Gillespie in 1950 and they began their life together eventually having four sons. L.V. began Rite-A-Way Electric with his brother-in-law in 1963 which he and Martha continued to operate until his retirement in 1993. His reputation as a hard worker and honest businessman is well known, and he passed those lessons on to his children as they grew up working in the family business. L.V. was a charter and life-long member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Greenwood where he served faithfully as a deacon. He also served his community in the Civitan Club for many years. He enjoyed camping and crappie fishing and had a sharp wit which he used with careful gentleness. His strength of character was steadfast and his humbleness put those around him at ease.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lee Lawson Robertson and Guy Marvin Robertson; sisters, Juanita Daves and Arcola Elliott; wife, Martha Gillespie Robertson; and a son, Ronald Wade Robertson.
He is survived by his sons, Robert Gillespie Robertson of Hernando, Richard Lee Robertson, and Russell Griggs Robertson (Carla) of Greenwood; daughter-in-law, Susan Robertson of Madison, MS; grandchildren, Rob Robertson (Kristy) of Dallas, TX, Chad Robertson (Candy) and Grant Robertson of Hernando, MS, Robin Smith (Matt) of Greenwood, Ryan Robertson (Lauren) of Hattiesburg, MS, Ronnie Wade Robertson (Amy) of Gulfport, MS, Derrick Robertson (Kelsie) of Memphis, TN, Rachel Price (Stephen) of Clinton, MS, Christian Fortenberry (Brooks) of Brandon, MS, Anna Mills (Jarrett) of Holcomb, MS, and Martha Clark Robertson of Greenwood; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert Robertson (Sarah) of Brandon, MS, and a sister, Loretta Acy of Coila, MS; and a multitude nieces and nephews. L.V. is also survived by his close friend and trusted caregiver Sylvia Cordova who was his "Angel Del Ceilo" (heaven's angel) for many years.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenwood, with funeral services immediately following the visitation. Interment will be in Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Coila, MS. Pall bearers will be: Rob Robertson, Chad Robertson, Grant Robertson, Ryan Robertson, Ronnie Wade Robertson and Derrick Robertson. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church or the Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. Wilson and Knight Funeral Home of Greenwood is in charge of arrangements.
