Leslie Morgan Elliott, 68, of Greenwood, passed away at his home Monday, January 18, after a long battle with cancer.
Les, as he was known by friends and family, was born December 29, 1947, to Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Elliott (June and Bubba). The family lived in Carroll County for a few years before moving to Greenwood, where he resided until his death.
Mr. Elliott graduated from Greenwood High School and Mississippi Delta Junior College and attended Delta State University.
He was employed as a programmer and data services supervisor at Baldwin Piano Company for many years, and later worked as technology coordinator for Leflore County School System until he retired in December of 2010.
Mr. Elliott was a veteran of the Navy, and served on active duty during the Vietnam War off the coast of Vietnam, in the Philippines, and in Guam. Several friends made during that time were special to Les, and he continued to keep in touch with them throughout his life.
On July 10, 2004, Les married Marilyn Dorris May, and became the proud stepfather to Robin May Fair (Michael) and Keith May (Christy). He loved being "Pop" to their children, Charlie, Andrew and Natalie Fair, and Alex and Alden Killebrew.
Les was a loving son and brother and a wonderful "Uncle Les" to his nieces and nephews, and was a great and unselfish friend to many people.
An avid baseball fan, Les also enjoyed communicating with people around the world as a ham radio operator.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenwood.
Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Elliott, a brother, Bill Elliott, and a niece, Meri Autumn Elliott.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn, children: Keith May (Christy) and their children Alex and Alden Killebrew of Holcomb; Robin Fair (Michael) and their children Charlie, Andrew and Natalie Fair of Senatobia; a brother, John Elliott and a sister, Kathy Elliott, of Greenwood; a half-sister, Jaye Bossert (Jim) of Montgomery, Alabama; a nephew, Morgan Elliott of Greenwood; nieces, Samantha Elliott (Jamison) of Philadelphia; Ginny Manning (Will) of Sunflower; and Katey Deaton of Pensacola, Florida; great nieces, Addison Elliott, Emma and Abby Deaton; great nephews, Elliott Manning, John Brody Bailey, and Aiden Bailey.
The Elliott family wants to express deep appreciation to the nurses of Sunflower Home Health and Grace Hospice, and to the staff of The Family Cancer Center of Oxford for their kind and expert care.
A visitation will be held at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, January 22, followed by a memorial service at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood. The Rev. Duane Jensen will officiate at the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Keith May, Michael Fair, John Harville, Doug Segars, Andy Vining and Wayne Clark.
Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or American Cancer Society.
