Services for Lillian Marue Potter Tackett:

Died peacefully at her home in Itta Bena, Mississippi, at the age of 92, on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 1:00 pm.

She was born on September 14, 1924 in Higden, Arkansas, to Lillie Cody and James Timothy Potter. As a young girl, she enjoyed playing basketball, riding horses and cooking with her grandmother.

She attended high school in Hidgen, Arkansas. At age 19, she married William Bennett Tackett, also of Higden, and the two began a life of farming together. They had five children before moving to Belzoni, Mississippi.  In 1964, the family moved from Jonesboro, Arkansas, to Belzoni, Mississippi.  They relocated to Leflore County in 1973 and continued farming.  Mrs. Tackett was a true partner to her husband in every area of the family business and played a vital role in their lifelong farming operation. She has been a member of the Greenwood Church of God since 1973, and a member of the Church of God organization for over 70 years. Active involvement in her church was one of her favorite pastimes.  For many years she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and opened her home to countless youth functions.  She was an avid gardener and also enjoyed quilting, crocheting and cooking for her large family.  In her later years, she found pleasure in reading and working crossword puzzles.  She also loved traveling with her family and listening to bluegrass and gospel music.  She lived her life as a devoted wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, William Bennett Tackett; her parents, James Timothy and Lillie Cody Potter; two sisters, Fronnie Wilma Potter Turney and Artie Juanida Potter Waters; and three brothers, Ervin Earl Jack Potter, Earl Floyd Potter and Thomas Dee James William Potter.

She is remembered with love by her three daughters, Lavonne Paulette Metz (Dwain) of Cauldfield, Missouri; Regina Ann Walker (Joe) of Itta Bena, Mississippi; and Loretta Joan Terwilliger (Brian) of Greenbrier, Arkansas; and two sons, Charles William Tackett (Brenda) of Russellville, Arkansas, and Jimmy Killis Tackett (Susie) of Greenwood, Mississippi, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great -grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Barbara Coblentz and Vircey Johnson for their care and support of their beloved mother.

Visitation will be at the Greenwood Church of God from 11-1 on Saturday, April 22 and 1-2 at United Pentecostal Church in Higden, Arkansas on Sunday, April 23 with a funeral immediately following both services.

Burial will follow the service in Higden, Arkansas, at the Higden McLehaney Cemetery.

The Rev. Michael Mooneyham of Greenwood will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be Chuck Tackett, Brad Tackett, Ricky Metz, Joey Metz, Marty Tackett, Ben Tackett and Tommy Nester.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greenwood Church of God or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
