Louis E. Stout, Jr., 89, of Greenwood, MS, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Veteran's Home in Kosciusko, MS, due to complications of type II diabetes. Visitation will be from 11:30 am till 1:30 pm Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home with graveside services following at 2:00 pm in Itta Bena Cemetery.

Mr. Stout was born in Holmes Co., MS, to Louis E. Stout, Sr. and Mary Catherine Holland Stout on August 24 ^th , 1930.  He was a member of Tchula Methodist Church and graduated from Tchula High School in 1947, later marrying the love of his life, Ruby Jane Henderson, in 1951 at her family home in Phillipston. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the Army where he proudly served our country as an MP at Ft. Lee, VA, during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Greenwood in 1953 and went to work at Liberty Cash Grocery and later at Russell Wholesale.  He retired from Florewood State Park as a park ranger, a job that he thoroughly enjoyed throughout his later years.

Louis had many interests, chief of those being flying, numismatics, his collection and interest of local Indian artifacts, and his love of wildlife and nature. He spent many hours in the woods, streams, and rivers of our local Delta hunting and fishing.  Louis was known for his construction of hand-crafted fishing nets for commercial use, and was also a big fan of bluegrass music and the father of that genre, Bill Monroe.

After returning from the service, Louis and his family lived in Phillipston, near Sidon, later moving to Greenwood. He then moved his family to Jackson, MS, in 1958 and returned to Leflore County in 1962 where they lived for a short time in Itta Bena, and then on Bear Creek near Berclair, for 17 years.  Louis finally moved to the Gravel Hill community of Carroll County, where he built his home and enjoyed retirement from Florewood with his family and beloved cat, Smokey.

Louis is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruby Jane Henderson Stout, his daughter, Beverly Faye Stout, and his son, Michael Louis Stout (Sandra) of Greenwood. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Louis Douglas Stout (Krista) of Denver, CO, Shelley Kuykendall Everett (Mark) of Nashville, TN, and Stacey Kuykendall Austin (Joe) of Germantown, TN; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brother, Reber Lamar Stout (Jean) of Brandon, MS; niece, Janet Stout Trimm (Ronnie) of Brandon, MS; and nephew, Erik Stout (Tonya) of Florida.

The family would like to thank the administration, nurses, CNA's, and staff at the Veteran's Home and the Baptist Hospital in Kosciusko, for their caring attention during his illness.
