Obituary

A celebration of the life of Louise Abide Ellis, 92, of Greenwood, Mississippi will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Greenwood, MS. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on December 1, 2016.

She was born in Greenwood, MS on January 25,1924 to Albert George Abide, Sr and Rachel Abide. She was married on January 11,1947 in Greenwood, MS to Philip Joseph Ellis, Sr. with whom she spent 54 years prior to his death.

She was involved in many church and civic activities throughout her life. Most important was her church and her family. She was a lifelong communicant at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Greenwood. She was a member of the Ladies Auxilliary, the Madonna Circle, Seniors on the Go, Greenwood Garden Club and the Museum of the Delta. She enjoyed preparing dinner for her family at home every Sunday. She enjoyed traveling with her grandchildren on summer trips. She was a longtime supporter of Mississippi State University and an avid football fan.

She was a loving servant of God, and her family was blessed to have her as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

In addition to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Abide, Sr., she was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Joseph Ellis, Sr. Also by her brother A.G. Abide, Jr. and sisters Stella and Marie Malouf. She is survived by her sister Jeane Abide Iupe of Canton, MS and her loving children, Phil Ellis, Jr. and his wife, Cathy. Janice Ellis Ford, and her husband, John M. (Chip) Ford of Greenwood. Her grandchildren, Amy Ellis Archer of Louisville, KY, Meg Ellis Hayden of Monroe, LA, Carrie Louise Ford, and Rachel Elizabeth Ford of Boise, ID. In addition her great grand children, Emily, Rebecca, and Sarah Hayden Archer, Mary Margaret and Philip Hayden. Many nieces and nephews also mourn her loss.

The family wishes to thank Gloria Moore and Lillie Swims for the loving care and kindness they provided during her illness.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery of Greenwood, MS. Pallbearers will be Marc Biggers, Bill Litton, Alex Malouf, Bill Malouf, John Malouf, Buster Norris, Eddie Stuckey, Andy Pinkston, and Tom Tollison. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to IHM Catholic Church, P. O. Box 313 Greenwood, MS 38930 or to a favorite charity. Wilson and Knight Funeral Home is in charge.
