Obituary

Lyllian Irby Marion Tubbs of Greenwood went to be with the Lord on December 19, 2015. Services for Mrs. Tubbs will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 28, 2015 at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home.

Mrs. Tubbs was Born in Sumter, SC on April 20, 1923 to the Reverend Dr. J.P. Marion and Lyllian Farrow Irby Marion. The Marions, along with their other two children Laura Vance and James Preston, Jr., moved to Greenwood that year. After graduation from Belhaven College in 1944, she taught in Tallahatchie County where she met and married the late Buford Tubbs, Jr. In 1946 she began teaching in Greenwood and spent the majority of her career at Bankston School where she retired in 1990. Small in stature but huge in heart, teaching was her passion. In 1973 she received the Mississippi Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award. Lyllian was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood. There she served as a Sunday School teacher, member of Presbyterian Women, choir and served on many committees. As a long time volunteer at the Museum of the Mississippi Delta, she served as treasurer for Friends of the Museum. The gift shop was named in her honor, recognizing her dedication.

She is survived by a daughter Marion Tubbs Beasy, son Buford Tubbs III and his wife, Toni, six grandchildren; Ben Barrentine, Brian Barrentine and wife, Julie, Leslie Beasy Odom and husband, T.J., Chip Tubbs, and wife, Deanna, Chalen Jones and Elizabeth Pearson, six great grandchildren; Paige Davis, Preston, Greer and Adelaide Odom, Sloane and Harley Tubbs and a multitude of students she taught over the years.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00PM on Monday December 28, 2015 at Wilson & Knight funeral home.

The Reverend Dr. Rusty Douglas and the Reverend Dr. Jim Phillips will officiate the service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church and French Camp.
