Funeral Services for Marcus Tingle will be held 10:00 am Wednesday June 29, 2016, at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood, Mississippi, with visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday June 28, 2016 and prior to the service at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home, for Marcus Tingle, age 91 of Greenwood, Mississippi, who passed away June 26, 2016, at Indywood Glen Assisted Living in Greenwood, Mississippi. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood, Mississippi. Reverend Glenn Seefeld will be officiating. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Marcus was born February 1, 1925 in Teoc, Mississippi, son of Samuel McDowell Tingle and Maggie Bell Minyard. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Mary Helon Kearney Tingle, a grandson Jeremy Micheal Wilson, five brothers Winton Tingle, twin brother Murray Tingle, Samuel "Son" Tingle, Houston "Amos" Tingle, and Duane Tingle; two sisters Mildred "Sissie" Brown and Ruth Haskins; and in-laws Norman Haskins, Lena Tingle, Syble Tingle, and Jack McDonald.
Marcus never met a stranger and made a friend of everyone he met. He loved people and cherished his family and friends.
Those left to miss him and cherish the memories are his daughter Dr. Kathy Tingle Wilson and husband Carley "Mike" Wilson of Hickory, NC; grandson Jeffrey Marcus Wilson and wife Maggy; and brother Hayes "Andy" Tingle and wife Sarah and sister Lillie McDonald, in-laws Helen Tingle, Frances Tingle, and many nieces and nephews; and his best friends Giles Fuller and wife Frances.
Marcus was a member of the First United Methodist Church and The Odd Fellows Lodge in Greenwood, where he held numerous positions in both organizations.
Marcus served in the U.S. Army from July 1943 to January 1946. He participated and received medals in the Battles of Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland, including the Battle of the Bulge. Returning home after World War II he met, courted, and married Mary Helon Kearney and attended Holmes Junior College. Shortly after graduation he began a career of selling insurance with Interstate Life and Accident Insurance Company which lasted until he retired from American General Insurance in 1987, covering 40 years.

A grateful and special thank you goes to Indywood Glen staff, Dr. Michael Boler and staff, Greenwood Drugs, and Debby Johnson for the love and special care provided Marcus.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to First United Methodist Church in Greenwood, Mississippi.
The pallbearers will be Barry McDonald, JB McDonald, Gene Haskins, Larry Tingle, Mike Tingle, Vance Smith, and Sammy Tingle.
