Obituary

Martha Cheney Wiggins Geeslin, 93, of Greenwood, MS passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013. Born January 15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Carl and Lillye Maude Evans Wiggins in Greenwood, MS. She taught dancing to tens of thousands of Greenwood's youth, spanning a period of over 60 years. She was a lifetime member of the National Association of Dancers and Affiliated Artists (NADAA) and Dance Teachers United (DTU) where she was one of the founding members. While with NADAA, she traveled cross country every summer for over 25 years, traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago to New York City. She was an inspiration to not only to her many dancing students, but to other dance teachers as well. She served as Grand Marshall of the annual Roy Martin Band Festival three times. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Michael Leon Geeslin of Arvada, CO and a brother Johnnie Wiggins of Greenwood, MS. She is survived by a brother Elson Wiggins and wife Helen of Greenwood, MS, a son, William Carl Geeslin and wife Jackie of Jackson, MS, a daughter Cindy Geeslin Goza and husband Danny of Greenwood, MS, five grandchildren, Cheney Geeslin of Arvada, CO, Celine Geeslin Corr and husband TC, of Las Vegas, NV, Karian Geeslin Snyder of Olive Branch, MS, Renee' Goza of Mandeville, LA, Jennifer Goza Clardy and husband, Harold, of Brandon, MS. seven great-great grandchildren, Zachary Snyder, Zoe Snyder, Zane Snyder of Olive Branch, MS, Trace Edwards of Mandeville, LA, Ty Clardy, Cash Clardy of Brandon, MS, Hollis Geeslin of Arvada CO. She is survived by four nephews, Billy Wiggins of Daytona Beach, FL/Nassau, Bahamas, Eddie Hayward and wife Linda of Madison, MS, Mickey Horne and wife Brenda of Dallas, TX, Billy Horne of Oklahoma City, OK. Her niece Helon Wiggins of Greenwood, MS. Pallbearers will be Anthony Ola, Calvin Hunt, Barry Brewer, Randy Henderson, Dr. Todd Fincher and Floyd Melton III. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jeff Moses, Dr. Wally Moses and Johnny Jennings.Visitation will be Thursday, September 12 from 5P.M. to 7 p.m. at Wilson Knight Funeral Home and the funeral will be Friday 13 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation at 1:00 pm. Rev. Richard Wiman of First Presbyterian Church of Belzoni, MS will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
