Services for Mary Alice Parker Burke will be held at 11am on Wednesday, Feb 10th at North Greenwood Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 10am to 11am in the church parlor prior to the service. Dr. Jim Phillips will officiate the services. Burial will be at 2:30pm Wednesday at Shiloh Cemetery in Big Creek, MS in Calhoun County. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Burke, age 94, died Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Indywood Glen of natural causes. She was born January 13, 1922 in Big Creek, MS to the late George Washington Parker II and Lillian Carolyn Aven Parker. She received her teaching certification from Holmes, and taught school through the war years, before moving to Greenwood with her husband, J. Fred Burke, who pre-deceased her by almost exactly one year. She was a Charter Member of the North Greenwood Baptist Church, where she was the first President of the WMU and taught the teenaged girls' Sunday school class for decades; and was a long-standing member of LeBonte, serving as President.
She is survived by two sons Fred Parker Burke and his wife, Sara Jean, of Atlanta and David Ralph Burke and his wife, Margaret, of Tomball, TX; four grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Burke Bradford and her husband, Will, Fred Parker Burke, Jr. and his wife, Kayse, Thomas Howell Burke, and Daniel Ryan Burke and his wife, Kimberly; and six great-grandchildren, Lillian Grace Bradford, William Earl Bradford III, Annabelle Jean Bradford, Thomas Burke Bradford, Mary Alice Burke and Fred Parker Burke III.
Pallbearers will be William Harold Bradford Jr., Fred Parker Burke, Jr., Thomas Howell Burke, Daniel Ryan Burke, Stephen Brian Parker, Charles Glen Brasher, and Dale Parker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Greenwood Baptist Church Youth programs.
