Services for Mary Louise Campbell will be held Friday, February 3, 2017, 11:00 AM at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS.
Mrs. Campbell, age 97, died on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in Greenwood, MS.
She was born on April 3, 1919 in Luxohoma, MS, to the late Albert and Pauline Golden Boyd and lived in Greenwood for most of her life. She was a member of West President Church of Christ. Mrs. Campbell taught Home economics and first grade for over 60 years inspiring many lives. During World War II there was a shortage of teachers, and Mrs. Campbell was able to begin her teaching career without having a college degree. She also worked for Gibson Department Store during summers, and she was able to commute to Ole Miss and attain her Bachelor's Degree. Mrs. Campbell taught school in Phillip, Cary, Sidon, Greenwood, and Carroll Academy, she also subbed for Greenwood Public Schools till she was 94 years old. She loved to decorate her yard during the holidays and was an avid gardener. Mrs. Campbell enjoyed cooking and was very enthusiastic about trying new recipes. She was a true role model and her family was the center of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn (Louis) Fratesi of Leland, MS, and Brenda (Steve) Pernell of Greenwood, MS; grandchildren, Torrey (Angela) Fratesi of Leland, MS, Shannon (Jimmy) Lang of Meridian, MS, Bridgit (Ricky) Harper of Carrollton, MS, Stephanie Chamblee of Carrollton, MS, and Jason (Crystal) Pernell of Grenada, MS; great nephew, Bruce Stubbs of Long Beach, MS; 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood. Mark Shiers will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Jason Pernell, Torrey Fratesi, Jesse Lang, Ricky Harper, Colby Harper, and Jimmy Lang. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Powell and Bruce Stubbs. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Grace Hospice and Indywood Glen for the care they showed for Mrs. Campbell.
