Mary Charlotte Clarke, age 101, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2024, at her home in Greenwood. A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Mary Charlotte Clarke was born on March 14, 1922 to Richard L and Elizabeth Baglan Clarke in Greenwood. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1939 and attended college. In 1944, she began working at Staplcotn. There she had a long career spanning a remarkable 43 years and retired in 1987. She was a lifelong resident of Greenwood and a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles, Dick, and Johnny Clarke; and sisters, Betty McDevitt and Maureen Black.

She is survived by her sisters, Margie Smith of Greenwood, and Pat Chassaniol of Columbia, SC; fifteen nieces and nephews, Charlotte Mitchell (David), Sissy Burnham, George Smith (Janice), Linda Ahlberg (Ted), Clarke Smith, Patti Ivie (Larry), Renee Culler (Joe), Suzanne Newell (Roger), Jeanne Walker (Bruce), Ricky Clarke (Terri), Larry Clarke (Christina), Carol Besselman (Rick), Tommy Black, Jan Stokes, and Ashley Daves (Mike); as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Her family is grateful for the years of care and love from her caregivers, Mildred Warren, Mattie Roach, Queen Hill, Maeleen Burt, and Evelina Jasper. The family is also extremely grateful to her entire team at Adoration Hospice.

Pallbearers will be George Smith III, Clarke Smith, David Mitchell, Ricky Clarke, Larry Clarke, Rick Besselman, Tommy Black, and Mike Daves.

Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart or Charity of Choice.
