Services for Mary Ellen Makamson Woodard will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023 10:00 AM at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS.

Mrs. Woodard, age 93, died on Wednesday, February 14, 2023 at her residence in Madden, MS.

She was born on January 21, 1930 in Morgan City, MS, to Gay Barron Makamson and Minnie Smith Makamson. She worked as a nurse in Dr. Fred Sandifer's office for seven years and in the maternity ward at Greenwood Leflore Hospital for over thirty years. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Woodard, Sr.; grandson, Gilbert Higginbotham; brothers, Rex Makamson, Durell Makamson, CK Makamson, and Randall Makamson, Sr.; and a sister, Minnie Gaye Bidwell.

She is survived by her son, James (Susan) Woodard, Jr of Natchez, MS; daughter, Beverly Suzanne (John) Higginbotham of Philadelphia, MS; grandchildren, John Higginbotham, Jr., Jenny Martin, Trey Woodard, Matt Woodard, Mandy Perry, and Joshua Woodard; and sixteen great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home. Rev. Butch Kelly will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be John Higginbotham, Jr., Trey Woodard, Matt Woodard, Josh Woodard, Bill Higginbotham, Sidney Martin, Chris Makamson, Dave Higginbotham, and Sean Perry. Honorary pallbearers will be John Higginbotham, Sr., Gary Higginbotham, Jessie Bennett, David Higginbotham, Gene Bidwell, Randle Makamson, Jr., Sammy Makamson, Freddie Makamson, and Trey Perry. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Itta Bena.
