Michael A. Goldberg died on September 16, 2026 at The Goldton at Adelaide in Starkville, Mississippi.

Mike was born on November 23, 1952, in Greenwood, Mississippi. He spent his life deeply rooted in the Mississippi Delta, in the Jewish faith, and in a family whose history in Greenwood stretches back more than 100 years. His 73 years in Greenwood connected several generations—from immigrant grandparents who established themselves in the Delta, to parents who endured extraordinary hardship and built a life here, to children and grandchildren who carry their values forward. As a second- generation Holocaust survivor, Mike was passionate about ensuring his mother’s experience would always be remembered.

A devoted steward of his synagogue, his farm, and his business, Mike served as President of Ahavath Rayim Synagogue and Chair of the Ahavath Rayim Cemetery Committee for many years. He personally supervised the restoration of the Greenwood Shul for his grandson Jack’s Bar Mitzvah in 2024. For 54 years, Mike was the successful leader of his family’s business, which dates back to 1921. He also had a lifelong love for the land and trees, and was a member of Temple Israel in Memphis.

Mike was predeceased by his father, Ervin Goldberg, and his mother, Ilse M. Goldberg.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail M. Goldberg; his sons, of whom he was immensely proud, Dr. Richard A. Goldberg (Rachel) and Scott A. Goldberg (Annie) and his five greatest joys, his grandchildren: Walker, Jack, Madison, Emory, and Pierce Goldberg. He is also survived by his brother, Jerome Goldberg and his nephew and niece, Eric S. Goldberg (Cassidy) and Erin G. Bryant (Baylor).

A graveside interment will be held in Ahavath Rayim Cemetery in Greenwood on Friday, September 18, 2026. Services will be officiated by Rabbi Micah Greenstein and Morris Thomas.
