Myrtle Goss Simpson of Avalon, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood, MS.

Myrtle was born July 6, 1936, in Avalon, to William "Bud" and Cecil Goss.  She graduated from Valley High School. Myrtle married the love of her life, Billy Simpson, on June 17, 1960.  In their younger years, they enjoyed camping and spending time with family, mostly at the Goss homestead in Avalon.

Myrtle was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing Bunko with the ladies from church until her health declined.

Myrtle worked for Greenwood Leflore County Hospital and South Sunflower County Hospital as an LPN prior to her retirement. During her years in healthcare, Myrtle made an impact on many lives. Although she was shy, Myrtle had an infectious smile that put people at ease. She had a very caring and nurturing nature.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; brothers, Curtis Goss, Olin Goss, Clifton Goss, Bennie Goss, Harmon "Bubba" Goss, and Travis Goss; and sisters, Corean Minyard and Faye Minyard.

Myrtle is survived by her sister, Virginia Minyard and special sister-in-law Wanda Goss, who took great care of Myrtle over the past several years. Although Myrtle did not have any children, she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews that cherished her and considered her their Mammy.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM with Reverend Laney Haley officiating. Burial will follow in Moore's Memorial Cemetery in Carroll County.

Pallbearers will be Brian Goss, Dale Alderman, Jared Counts, Brantley Counts, Chandler Counts, Mike Goss and Kyle Kirchharr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Terry Minyard and Charlie Minyard.
