Norma Lee
Mclean Cothran
d. Dec 7, 2022
Biloxi
Norma Lee McLean Cothran, 91, of Biloxi (formerly of Greenwood), passed away peacefully after a brief illness December 7, 2022 at Merritt Health Biloxi.
Norma was born to Edward Newton and Mary Annis Stephens McLean in Belzoni, MS. Growing up in a large family in and around Itta Bena and Lake Henry, Norma graduated from Morgan City High School in 1948, and soon thereafter married Thomas Cothran.
Norma's family was her pride, love and joy. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker who also found time to work for various businesses in Greenwood through the years, eventually retiring from The Russell Company. In 2010 she and Thomas moved to Biloxi to be closer to family.
Norma was known for her wonderful cooking and was always willing to try new and different dishes. A master at playing canasta, Scrabble and Words with Friends, Norma never lost her appetite for learning, and often could be found not reading the latest novels, but instead reading encyclopedias or even surfing the internet, which she did well into her 80s.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, seven sisters, five brothers, and one son-in-law, Rick Stahl. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret (Larry) Mangum of Biloxi, MS, and Rebecca Stahl of Plainfield, IL; son, Tom Cothran of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Mickey (Rachel) Mangum of Long Beach, MS; Robin Mangum of D'Iberville, MS; Jennifer Richardson of Joliet, IL; Emily (Bobby) Cuddy of Diamond, IL; four great grandchildren; and one sister, Ollie Rose Hollis of Tupelo.
Visitation will be Monday, December 12, 2022 from 12:00 pm -1:00 pm with a funeral service following at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS. Interment will be at Bear Creek Cemetery in Quito, MS, following the funeral service.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Mangum, Jerry McLean, John Grant, Bob Grant, Hayden Grant and Sam Rustom.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Morgan City Baptist Church, or the charity of your choice.
Norma's family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to all the staff and management of Brookdale Senior Living in Biloxi for the care and comfort Norma received while a resident at Brookdale.
