Olene Goss Britt's Obituary
Olene Goss Britt, 91, passed away on November 30, 2015, at Golden Age Nursing Home after a brief illness. Born November 9, 1924, in Drew, Mississippi, she is predeceased by her parents, Carson Hancock Goss and Elaine (Thornton) Goss. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Paul Britt, in 1998.
Olene attended Minter City High School and worked during WWII for Sears Roebuck in Memphis. After the war she returned to the Delta, married Henry Paul Britt in 1946, and settled into the life of a farm wife and homemaker. Olene was an active lifetime member of Minter City United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Fondly referred to as "Ene" by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she will be missed.
She is survived three children: Donna Shelton of Greenwood, Janet Hammons (Allan) of Greenwood, and Henry Paul Britt, Jr. (Patsy) of Minter City; four grandchildren: Rob Hammons (Melinda), Stephanie Britt Gillespie (Robert), Jesica Britt Dunavent (Caleb) and Britt Hammons Carter (Christopher).
She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Emma Hammons, Charlie Rogan Gillespie, Yates Gillespie, Henry Gillespie, Addison Dunavent, Allan Carter and Elizabeth Carter.
She is survived by her brother, Dayne Goss (Lou Ray) of Houston, Texas, and sister, Wilma Kenwright (widow of Jack) of Austin, Texas.
Wilson and Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is scheduled from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2, at the funeral home. A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville with longtime friend and fellow Methodist, Belva Pleasants, officiating.
