Patricia Ann Evans Ellington Evans passed away after a brief illness at Greenwood Leflore Hospital on Sunday, October 22, 2023. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 25, from 10 to 11 am at First Presbyterian Church, followed by the service at 11 am and gravesite interment immediately afterwards at Odd Fellows Cemetery, under the direction of Dr. Andrew Chaney.

Mrs. Evans was the widow of Claude Wilburn Ellington and Judge Durward Gray Evans. She was the fifth and youngest child born to Howard McTyiere Evans and Jessie Mae West Evans in Jackson, Mississippi on June 19, 1932. Following her father's death when she was only four months old, her family returned to Greenwood and she grew up in a large extended family at 115 East Washington Street. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Jessye Evans Roberson, Mary Olive Evans Bartling, Sara Evans Criss and Howard McTyiere Evans, Jr. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David Anderson Evans and Katherine Abraham Evans of Atlanta, and two beloved granddaughters, Caroline Grace Evans and Charlotte Gray Evans. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-greats will forever share their stories of everyone's favorite family member.

Growing up during the Great Depression, Patricia was a talented dancer, First Chair clarinet and majorette in Roy Martin's GHS Band, President of her GHS class for two years and involved in numerous community projects. After two years at Mississippi State College for Women, Patricia returned to Greenwood and continued a life of service to her hometown in innumerable ways. She worked for Bell Telephone, Bank of Greenwood and Leflore County Tax Assessor's office, but her joy was in volunteer and church work. The local service clubs chose her to represent Greenwood as a Goodwill Ambassador to Plymouth, England, over the summer of 1952. She later served as President of the Town and Country Garden Club, was a Life Member of Greenwood Junior Auxiliary and was a Founding Member and President of the Florewood Society. A member of First Presbyterian Church from 1962 until her death, she dedicated herself to multiple ministries, including serving as the Director of Christian Education, teaching Adult Sunday School and Circle classes and sharing her skill in needlepoint to create the coverings for the Pulpit chairs and the pulpit parament. In 2022, she was celebrated as an Honorary Life Member of the church.

In honor of the life and memory of one of Greenwood's most devoted advocates and friend to all who knew her, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
