Peggy W. Muse, 86, of Oxford died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at South Sunflower County Hospital. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Itta Bena Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Burial will be in Itta Bena Cemetery. Rev. Warren Black will officiate and assisting will be Rev. Don Ross.
Mrs. Muse was born August 19, 1928 to Carl and Julia Hampton Wiggins. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1946 and attended Blue Mountain College and the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Itta Bena where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher and a member of Oxford-University United Methodist Church where she was an active member of United Methodist Women. She was a charter member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Mrs. Muse was a Cub Scout Leader and a member of several bridge clubs. She was also a member of the Itta Bena Woman's Club and the Itta Bena Supper Club. She enjoyed traveling with Planters Bank Tours. Mrs. Muse was an accomplished designer and artist. She and her husband John Henry Muse, Jr. were charter members of Leflore County Country Club. Mrs. Muse loved sports, especially golf and football. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
She is survived by her son John Muse and wife Susan of Itta Bena, daughters Julianna Ross and husband Ernest of Oxford, Melinda Thornburg of Greenwood, Candace Sandling and husband Jimmy of Greenwood and son Doug Muse and wife Margie of Greenwood. She is also survived by her sister Judy Sanders of Jackson and 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: J.H. Muse III, Don Ross, Christian Ross, Brent Holliman, Benjamin Rosenthal, Hugh Muse and Scott Upchurch.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oxford-University United Methodist Church, 424 South 10th Street, Oxford, MS 38655, or to a charity of your choice.
