On Tuesday, September 3, 2013, Richard Fortune Truitt, Sr., was made whole and well again and RAN into the arms of his savior Jesus Christ. He was greeted by the born again members of his family. "Big Rick", beloved husband, father, and grandfather had a heart of gold and will be remembered by his friends and family for his strength, compassion, kindness, courage, and always putting others before himself.
Rick was born in Greenwood, MS, on February 6, 1947 and grew up in Minter City, MS. He spent his entire life growing up in the Mississippi Delta. He graduated from Leflore County High School in 1966, and attended Mississippi Delta Community College.
Big Rick had many hobbies including reading, hunting, fishing, and anything to do with softball or baseball. He was known for holding an afternoon wiffle ball game in his backyard, for which he spared no sympathy for the youngest players. All was fair game! His other passions include Mississippi State football, playing cards, and spending time with those close to him.
Rick Truitt, Sr. is survived by his loving wife, Linda. Linda spent the next 42 years as his best friend, partner, and in the last years of his life, his angel. In those 42 years, Rick never raised his voice or uttered an unkind word to his family. He always instilled in his family that God, family, and good friends came first in life. He is also survived by his son Richard Fortune Truitt, Jr, a daughter Amy Truitt Blakeney, her husband Ryan Blakeney, and his two year old granddaughter, Avery Blakeney, who was the light of his life. He is also survived by Laura Truitt Williamson, ("Aunt R"), whom he loved like a mother and his numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, LG Truitt, mother Mae Fortune Truitt and brothers Frank and George Truitt.
The visitation will begin Thursday morning Sept. 5, 2013 at 9 A.M. with the memorial service to follow at 11 A.M at North Greenwood Baptist Church in Greenwood MS.
Pallbearers are Vince Dantone, Chris Dantone, Norris Truitt, Jack Truitt, Jeff Burton, Tony Burton Joey Wilson and Kelly Sykes.
