Sam Phillip Correro passed away on March 7, 2026. He was born in Greenwood, MS, on October 4, 1939, to Ida Margaret Correro of Clarksdale, MS, and Frank Correro of Greenwood, MS. He attended Greenwood Elementary and High School and graduated from Ole Miss: The University of Mississippi with a degree in pharmacy. Sam practiced pharmacy until retirement.

He was an avid motorcyclist since the late 1960's riding dirt roads and trails long before it became a popular sport. What began as a hobby turned into a full-time job on the side. He mapped a trail from his house in the Mississippi Delta to the West Coast. He named it the Trans-America Trail, also known as the TAT. His creation of the TAT became world renown in motorcycling corners. He hosted people from all over the world who wanted to come and ride the TAT. Riders would stop at his house, which he called Ground Zero for the TAT, and he would invite them in for a glass of sweet tea and talk motorcycles.

Sam is preceded in death by two of his sons, Samuel Frank Correro and Michael David Correro, and the mother of five of his children, Barbara Jean Correro.

He is survived by his partner, Eva Austin; his children, Catherine Denise Borgognoni, Nancy Margaret Correro, Macie Marie Correro Persell, Jacquelyn Correro Stephens, and Phillip Edward Correro, and their mom, Danette Correro; their partners, Jason, Karen, Mike, Joel, and Amanda; his grandchildren, Katie Clevenger, Andrew Paul Borgognoni, Samuel David Borgognoni, Natalie Denise Borgognoni, Luke Daniel Stephens, Will Barrett Stephens, Lane Katherine Correro, Georgia Anne Correro, and their partners, Owen, Alex, Laura, and Ernesto; and his great-grandchildren, Carson, Emma, Rosie, Robin, Jedd, Benny, Violet, and Charlotte.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home with visitation 10 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Bro. Wilton Neal will officiate.
