Sam Hilliard Vickers, age 85, of Alvin, Texas, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 in Houston, Texas. Sam was born on June 21, 1933 in Ruleville, Mississippi, and was a resident of Itta Bena, until moving to Alvin 11 years ago.  He worked for many years in the trucking industry for MS Carriers. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He was a Communications officer that sent and received Morse Code.  Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ruby Lee Vickers, wife, Ginny "Memee" Vickers, and son, Steve Vickers.

Sam is survived by his wife, Mary Vickers, daughter, Vicky Clark and husband Jimmy, son, Chris Vickers and wife Donna, step-daughter, Pam Yarborough and husband Tim, step-sons, Don Carmeans and wife Robin, Wayne Carmeans and wife Kathy, and Kevin Carmeans and wife Markay, sister, Josephine Gullett, brother, James Lewis Vickers and wife Shirley, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, with funeral services to follow immediately at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Chris Owensby will officiate. Interment will follow in Itta Bena Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gray Vickers, Eric Vickers, David Hodges, Jr., Scott Hodges, Will Hodges, and Ryan Hodges.
