Sammie Walter Winstead, Jr., 58, of Greenwood, MS died on September 16, 2024 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson.  Services will be Saturday at 10:30 am at St. John's Methodist Church with visitation from 10:00 am until service time.

Mr. Winstead was born January 30, 1966 in Isola, MS to the late Sammie Walter Winstead and Delthea Dale Ferguson Winstead.  He moved to Greenwood at a young age and attended school at Little Red School.  He had been a resident of Beacon Harbor for 38 years.  During this time, he became a member of St. John's Methodist Church, attended The Rainbow Sunday school class and choir, Men's Bible study, and many other events held at the church.  He worked at McDonald's when it was located on Park Avenue and attended Life Help Industries, as well as the Ray Tribble Center.  He really enjoyed attending Night to Shine at North Greenwood Baptist Church for the past 2 years.

He is survived by his sisters, Betty W. Caruthers of Murfreesboro, TN, and Teresa D. Winstead of Little Rock, AR; a nephew, Patrick Caruthers (Amanda) of Louisiana; and two nieces, Katherine Castaneda (Marcus) of TN, and Leslie Winstead of AR.  He also leaves behind many great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Caruthers, Marcus Castaneda, Evan Castaneda, Ben Estes, and Dallas Brown.  Honorary Pallbearers will be his brothers and sisters at Beacon Harbor:  Paul, Tony, Chris, Darryll, Jack, Kimbriel, Katie, Alix, Teresa, Aungellette, Liz, Michelle, Joie, Kris, Ruth, Georgia, Susan, Kathy, Renee, Jackie, Tracey, and the dedicated, loving staff.

Memorials may be made to Beacon Harbor or St. John's Rainbow Sunday School Class.
