Sarah Standrod Leard Dugger, 81 of Greenwood, Mississippi died Tuesday January 20, 2015 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Visitation will be at Wilson & Knight Funeral home Friday January 23, 2015 from 11:00 am- 1:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at New Hope Cemetery in Carroll County at 2:00 P.M. Dr. Jim Phillips will officiate the service.

Sarah was born in Carroll County near Coila on September 12, 1933. She graduated from Greenwood High school and attended nursing school at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She lived in Greenwood all her life after graduating from Nursing School.

Ms Leard, (as everyone called her) was a Registered Nurse and the nurse manager for the New Born Nursery at Greenwood Leflore Hospital where she cared for thousands of babies while employed there. She worked at the hospital from 1950 to 1999 and had an area in the Nursery dedicated to her when she retired. Sarah was a member of: Mississippi State Nurses Association, Board Member Mississippi Chapter March of Dimes, Women's International Bowling Congress, American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Neonatal Providers. She received an Honorary Educator's Degree Mississippi Delta Community College, The State Pediatric Nurse of the Year and The Greenwood Leflore Hospital Nurse of the Year. Sarah loved write poetry for family and friends and was a published poet. Sarah was an avid bowler who really enjoyed her team's company. She was a former member of New Hope Baptist Church in Coila and was a member Grace Bible Church.

Survivors include her son David Leard, daughter-in-laws Gwen, Sherry and Debbie, grandchildren Rob Leard, Sarah Leard, Shana Koch, Robin Morrison, Katherine Leard, Lauren Leard, great grandchildren: Thurman Ray & Alexander Michael Koch, Ella Kate, William Ross and Samuel Gene Morrison. She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Vicy Standrod, sister Lillie Bell Standrod, two sons Mike and Gene Jr and husband Gene Leard.

The family suggests memorials can be made to the March of Dimes in lieu of flowers.
