Services for Walter Edwin "Sonny" Diggs Jr. will be held Wednesday May 13, 2015 11:00 AM at Acona United Methodist Church in Acona, MS
Mr. Diggs, age 87 died on Sunday May 10, 2015 at Regency Hospital in Jackson, MS.
He was born on October 25, 1927 in Acona, MS to the late Walter and Mary Minyard Diggs and resided in the Acona and Tchula area most of his life. He was a farmer and the owner operator of Tchula Grain & Warehouse Company. He was a member of the Acona United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 29. He was a US Navy Veteran serving on the 699 Waldron during the Korean Conflict. He sponsored many rec league baseball and softball teams, and 4H programs to help the youth of the community.
He is survived by his Wife, of 61 years, Mary Elizabeth Cuicchi Diggs of Tchula, MS. Daughter, Beverly (Bill) Putnam of Cameron, MS, two Sons, Walter E. (Donna) Diggs III of Acona, MS, and Stephen T. (Francesca) Diggs of Rumney, NH, sister Betty Diggs (Bob) McCammon of Maryville TN, seven Grandchildren, Wyn (Katie) Diggs, Lauren (Dustin) Boling, Michelle Diggs, Madison Putnam, Talley Diggs, Harris Diggs, and Lainey Diggs, and seven Great Grandchildren, Drake Diggs, West Diggs, Brooke Diggs, Diggs Boling, Natalie Winstead, Nicole Winstead, and Riley Putnam, two nephews Carl (Brenda) Britt Jr., and Rob (Cindy) McCammon.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 13, 2015 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Acona United Methodist Church in Acona, MS. Rev Ricky Reece, Rev Rick Sheppard and Rev Larry Edwards will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Larry Clanton, Jack Bridgers, Ned Darbonne, Mac McNeer, Bryant Parrish, Milton Parrish, Rob McCammon, and Mike Pierce. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wayne Self, Bo Britt, Don Senn, Pepper Beard, Glenn Brock, Jimmy Sandling, Bill Miller, Mark Miller, Terry Brown, and Richard "Dick" Arnold. Burial will be in the Acona Methodist Cemetery.
