Susan Janice Burrell, 67, of Greenwood, MS, died Monday, May 22, 2017 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the funeral home. Rev. Brad Hodges will be officiating. Interment will be at 1p.m. in Palestine United Methodist Church Cemetery in Montpelier, MS. Wilson & Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Susan was born August 18, 1949 to Clifton O. Burrell, Jr. and Grace McGee Burrell in Greenwood, MS. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Delta State University. She retired from teaching in Houma, LA, and New Orleans, LA, and she also returned to Mississippi and retired from teaching in the Leflore County School District at Amanda Elzy. She was a dedicated board member of the Leflore County Humane Society, and her mission was to travel and rescue dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Bob Burrell of Winona.

She is survived by three brothers, Paul Burrell and wife Glenda of Oxford, MS, Clifton Burrell and wife Norma of Cherokee Village, AR, and Larry Burrell and wife Amy of Amory, MS; several nieces and nephews, Maury Sullivan of Ocean Springs, MS, Laurie Grace Burrell of Berkley, CA, Blaine Burrell of Oxford, MS, Spencer Burrell of Oxford, MS, Clifton Burrell IV of Southaven, MS, Dr. Laken Burrell of Amory, MS, Tori Burrell of Oxford, MS, Locke Burrell of Amory, MS, Bobby Burrell of Maryville, TN, and Julie Hill of Carrollton, MS.
