Sybil Stuart Markham, age 87, of Greenwood, MS, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, in Batesville, MS.
Sybil was born in Vaiden, MS, May 4, 1937 to Louis and Belle Stuart, the youngest of 5 girls.
She had a successful career as owner of A-Ace Bonding Co., for many decades, alongside her husband Harold Markham. She was a member of Christ Baptist Church in Greenwood, MS.
Sybil and her husband would enjoy many successful fishing trips to Grenada Lake. Although Sybil did not have children of her own, she was Godmother to Nicole. Both Debbie and Nicole spent much of their time growing up with Sybil. As Godmother to Nicole, Sybil would always be there for dance recitals, graduations, and many memorable moments.
In retirement, she enjoyed her trips to Florida with Nicole and great friends, spending time with her closest friends and family, and shopping. She enjoyed shopping at locally owned stores where she met several of her friends.
Although they lived far apart, Sybil spoke with her sister Martha almost daily on the phone. Martha and Sybil were together for the past two years in an assisted living facility where they were living their best life.
She is survived by her sister, Martha Charlesworth; niece, Debbie Robison; great-niece, Nicole Risner Vicknair (Chad); and a host of nieces, nephews, and great- nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold L Markham; parents, Louis Stuart and Sara Belle Eades Stuart; and sisters, Gladys McCorkle and Lucille Rickles.
Visitation will be on Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 12 PM - 1:30 PM at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home with funeral services immediately following at 2:00 PM graveside in Evergreen Cemetery. Rev. Lanny Haley will officiate the services.
