Warrene Vance Scruggs passed away on Sunday, July 27. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 30 from 5 to 7 and Thursday, July 31 from 10 until the 11 o'clock service at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton. Warrene was born in the Hickory Grove community of Carroll County in 1930 to Alfred and Nora Vance. She began a nursing career in 1951 at Greenwood-Leflore Hospital and continued her nursing career until her retirement in 1986 as a public health nurse in Carroll County for the Mississippi Department of Health. Warrene was well known throughout the community for her compassionate spirit and her unwavering concern for the welfare of her patients. She was a member of North Carrollton United Methodist Church where she taught children's Sunday school for a number of years.
Warrene was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. Scruggs, her parents, her siblings: Waymon Vance, Estee McNeer, Grady (Jack) Vance, and Wade (Dootsie) Vance. She is survived by her sons, Ralph L. (Skipper) Scruggs, Jr. and wife, Sarah of Madison, and James (Jim) Scruggs and wife, Phyllis of Senoia, GA and grandsons, Taylor Scruggs and Marshall Scruggs of Madison and Will Scruggs of Senoia, GA. She is also survived by step grandchildren Brian Mason and wife, Wendi of Suwanee, GA and Julie Mason of Newnan, GA and step great grandchild, Melissa Mason. She also leaves behind her siblings, Marguree Ashmore of Carrollton and Kermit Vance of Sardis.
