William Marlon Jennings , 86 of Schlater, MS died Monday, March 24, 2014 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Interment will be in McNutt Cemetery in Schlater, MS. Rev. Higdon Herrington will officiate.
Mr. Jennings was born March 12, 1928 in Holly Bluff, MS to Henry and Lottie Jennings. He moved to Schlater, MS in the 1930's with his family, where he established his business as a farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and continued to participate in the American Legion Activities. He was an avid gardener and loved to provide the community with fresh vegetables. He passed down his love for hunting and fishing to his children and grandchildren. He was an active member of Schlater Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Jennings was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Travis Jennings.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Duffey Jennings of Schlater , two sons David Owen Jennings and his wife Sheila of Schlater and Thomas Henry Jennings and his wife Melanie of Grenada, two grandchildren Michael Denton Jennings of Greenwood and Etta Kathryn Jennings of Grenada.
Pallbearers will be Billy Walker, Bill Brown, George Saunders, William Patridge, Wayne Bush and Jimmy Kent.
