William Leflore's Obituary
William Lee ("Billy") Leflore, Sr., 86, passed away on February 18, 2015 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood, MS. Mr. Leflore was born September 9, 1928 in Greenwood. He graduated from Greenwood High School where he played basketball and football and attended Mississippi Delta Community College where he also played football.
Billy began his professional career with Southern Bell Telephone Co. and retired after 38 years from South Central Bell. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Billy, who was affectionately known as "Cowboy" and "Pokey" by friends and as "Pap" by family, was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Mississippi State athletics follower and enjoyed playing golf. He was a longtime member of the Greenwood Sheet Metal Works softball team and served as coach of the Southern Bell softball team. Billy enjoyed people and had strong friendships with those of multi-generations and all walks of life. "Pap" loved to have a fun time with friends and family and will always be remembered for his dancing skills.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josephine; children and their spouses, Margaret and Fred Carl, Jr., William and Romana Leflore, Frank and Beth Leflore; grandchildren, Chris Carl, Lindy and Marty Taylor, Lee and Loren Leflore, Spencer Leflore, Mary Margaret and Wade Evans; and great grandchild, William Nevin Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents; Charles S. Leflore, Margaret McMillian Leflore Wall and John S. Wall, and his brother, Charles L. Leflore.
Funeral services will be held Saturday February 21, 2015 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Greenwood, MS. Visitation will be from 10:00 -11:30 A.M and a funeral Mass will begin immediately following. Internment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton, MS.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Perry Whites, Ricky Belk, John Doty Porter, Danny Smith, Duncan Fraiser, Parker Johnson, Edwin Crenshaw, Quinton Perry and Mark Tyler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Walter Moses, William Barrentine, Wilbur Rowland, and the staff of Golden Age Nursing Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
