Obituary

William Albert Meriwether, Sr.

February 23, 1941 - February 8, 2022

William Albert Meriwether, Sr., 80, went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of February 8, 2022. Services will be held Friday, February 11, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS.

Mr. Meriwether was born on February 23, 1941 in Carroll County, MS, to the late Claude and Robbie Noland Meriwether.  He lived in Carrollton, MS, and attended Carrollton Presbyterian Church. Mr. Meriwether was devoted to his wife and loved spending time with her and their children.  He was a retired electrician, learning the skills early and eventually building his own business.  He also enjoyed cattle farming and was still active on the farm where he and his wife made the cattle their pets.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman, learning from his father.  He talked often of fishing and hunting memories with cousins and friends.  Albert also enjoyed teaching his kids and grandkids about his love for these activities. He was willing to attempt almost any job and was almost always successful with the endeavor.  He never met a stranger and had a zest for life. He lived as he was, "larger than life", and he truly enjoyed visiting with others and working hard to support his family. The love he had for his family was evident to all who knew him.  His grandchildren surely knew that Grandy was proud of them and that they could always count on his support and encouragement.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Minyard Meriwether of Carrollton, MS; three children, William Albert (Ginger) Meriwether, Jr.  of Holcomb, MS, Susan Meriwether (the late Jay) Leake of Oxford, MS, and James Claude (Christina) Meriwether of Carrollton, MS; sister, Shirley Meriwether (G. B.) Gill of Kilmichael, MS; and six grandchildren, Hayley Rae Meriwether, William Austin Meriwether, James Wyatt Meriwether, Meredith Claire Meriwether, William Albert Meriwether, III, and Alexander James Leake; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be grandsons Austin Meriwether, Wyatt Meriwether, Will Meriwether, and Alex Leake; and nephews Mack Gill, Gray Gill, and David DuBard. Rev. Rupert Ingram will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Carrollton.
